Our Yellowstone hotel was quite a bit further from the park than we'd thought. That, coupled with how difficult the crowds made it to tour the park influenced our decision to continue north and get a start on getting to Glacier.
Every state we'd been through so far we've said "THIS is the most desolate", but northern Montana may take the top prize in that category.
We quickly set up camp and headed up to the Many Glacier area to see what's left of the glaciers in the park.
The ride was beautiful and we saw a bald eagle which was pretty amazing. The glaciers were not exactly what I thought they would look like, but the scenery was some of the best we'd seen so far.
Back at the camp we cooked up some dinner and hit the hay.
The next morning we were up with the sun. We packed up the campsite and set out onto Going-to-the-Sun Road with the intention to beat the crowds. Going-to-the-Sun Road is the park's main attraction. It's an incredibly winding road through the mountains that traverses the park. The drive was incredible. I think it's the most beautiful place I've seen on the trip so far. Pictures could never do it justice, but I tried:
