Zion

After Death Valley we headed to St. George for a couple nights to see Zion National Park. The main feature of the park is the Zion Canyon with the Virgin River running down through it. Looking up from the floor of the canyon the walls towered above us.
We were able to join a ranger-led tour for a great explanation of the different formations and resources in the canyon. Some parts of the park were closed due to wildfires.
We continued touring and as we traveled north the canyon became more and more narrow. The striations and colors in the rock were amazing.
Some of the plants were really interesting. The shrub live oak has leaves like a holly and acorns:
The moonflower folds up tight during the day and opens at dusk:
Zion was beautiful and the tour with the ranger was such a great way to learn about the canyon. Next stop, Bryce!
